AMBULANCE/HEARSE

Ambulance/hearse:  This class is used for both ambulances and hearses and the plate coding is based on the size of the community (number of inhabitants) served.  As I like to say, they both do the same thing.  The only difference is the condition of the cargo.

The plate number format is, from left to right, the Alabama county codes prefix, the "K" plate code and community size code number, then the plate number.  The community size code numbers are as follows:

"K1" = under 10,000 inhabitants
"K2" = 10,000 to 40,000 inhabitants
"K3" = 40,001 to 100,000 inhabitants
"K4" = over 100,000 inhabitants
