Idaho has county coded its plates since 1932.  See the county code page.

1991 red/white/blue base:  This design was born from the popular centennial design and originally had a small stacked (or single letter) county code.  Approximately 1998, the state changed to a full sized county code for clarity.  The difference between the passenger plate and truck plate is the plate number format.  Truck plates have a "T" at the end of the plate number.

Small-sized county code:

Full-sized county code:

2006 (blue/red, white & blue) Gem County vg $3.00 (actual plate)
