Idaho

UTILITY TRAILER

1968 dated base:  This design began Idaho's multiyear plate series' and came in many varieties.  The varieties listed below are ones that I have personally identified, but there may be more.  The standard county coding is at the left and the explanation can be found on the Idaho county codes page.

Type I - tall squared "68IDA" centered at the bottom, "UTILITY Tr." at the top (note the lower case "r"):

Type II - short squared "68IDA" shifted to the left at the bottom, "UTILITY TR." at the top (note the upper case "R"):

Type III - thin "68IDA" centered at the bottom, "UTILITY TR." same as type II:

Type IV - thin "68IDA" centered at the bottom, thin "UTILITY TR." at the top with wider spacing between
     the words:

1971 dateless base:  Similar to the previous "68" design, but with the date removed.  This design also has varieties.  It was replaced, along with all of the "68" base varieties, with the "73" dated base.  The standard county coding is at the left and the explanation can be found on the Idaho county codes page.

Type I - "IDA" at the bottom, "UTILITY TR." at the top with rounded "U":

Type II - "IDAHO" at the bottom, "UTILITY TR." at the top with squared "U", both county code and plate numbers thin and without serifs:

1973 dated base:  Similar to the previous "68" design, but with "73 IDA" at the bottom.  I have not see varieties like on the previous 1968 and 1971 bases.  The standard county coding is at the left and the explanation can be found on the Idaho county codes page.

1975 dateless base:  Similar to the previous "73" design, but with the date again removed.  The standard county coding is at the left and the explanation can be found on the Idaho county codes page.

1986 non-county coded base:  Similar to the previous 1975 undated design, but no longer county coded.  I have seen two types.

Type I - "IDA" at the bottom, "TRAILER" at the top:

Type II - "IDAHO" at the top, "UTILITY TR." at the bottom:

1991 red/white/blue base:  This design was born from the popular centennial design.  This is a small sized plate with a "UAA 000" or "000 UAA" plate number format, the leading "U" meaning the plate is for a utility trailer.  ("M" would indicate the plate as a motorcycle plate and a "B" for a boat trailer.)  This design is not county coded.
