Note on light trucks and trailers: Beginning with the 1983 sunflower base, light truck and trailer classes used passenger plates. The plates were issued with a class sticker at the bottom of the plate and the appropriate year sticker ("TRUCK" and "TRLR").
1983 sunflower base: The following design began in 1983 and ran concurrently with the 1981 base through 1987 ("88" expiration sticker). The stacked 2-letter prefix is the county code (see county code page). The year sticker will have "TRLR" on it and a "8M TRAILER" sticker is at the bottom of the plate.
1989 wheat base: The following design began in 1988 (screened "89" expiration in stickerwell) and features a stylized "KANSAS" at the top center and shafts of wheat in the center of the plate. There was dissatisfaction with the design of the state name, so the name was later redesigned with a more plain "KANSAS". It is unknown when this redesign took place. In the top left corner is a sticker with the two-letter county code (see county code page). There are two different size county stickers. The year sticker will have a stacked "TRLR" on it and a "8M TRAILER" sticker is at the bottom of the plate. Stylized "KANSAS":
Plain "KANSAS":
1994 wheat base: The following design began in 1994 (screened "95" expiration in stickerwell) and features shafts of wheat in the center of the plate. In the top left corner is a sticker with the two-letter county code (see Kansas county codes page) and it comes in two different sizes. The year sticker will have a stacked vertical "TRLR" on it and a "8M TRLR" sticker is at the bottom of the plate.
2001 state capitol building base: The following design began in 2001 (screened "02" expiration in stickerwell) and features a graphic design of the state's capitol building. In the top left corner is a sticker with the two-letter county code (see Kansas county codes page). The year sticker will have a stacked vertical "TRLR" on it. The trailer class also requires a "8M REGULAR" sticker placed on the plate.
