1978 base: without "EXPLORE", lighter colored background, without state outline plate number separator, "000 AAA" plate number format.

1982 base: without "EXPLORE", lighter colored background, with state outline plate number separator, "000 AAA" plate number format.

1987 base: with "EXPLORE", darker blue background, "10,000 lakes" is on a blue bar across the bottom of the plate, solid lake shore, with state outline plate number separator, "000 AAA" plate number format.

1992 (approximately) base: with "EXPLORE", darker blue background, "10,000 lakes" is on a fading white to blue bottom, fading lake shore, with state outline plate number separator, "000 AAA" plate number format.
