APPORTIONED, SERVICE

This plate is for an interstate vehicle with the vehicle registration fees being "apportioned" between the states that the vehicle operates in.  The "S" prefix is used for "Service" vehicles, vehicles that transport people, such as buses.  The other two types of apportioned plates are issued to cargo vehicles, such as truck/tractors and their trailers and are also indicated by their prefix.  The "P" prefix means the "power" vehicle (link to "Montana apportioned, power") and the "T" prefix is for the trailer (link to "Montana apportioned, trailer").
