Montana

PASSENGER - 2010 retro white/blue design

Passenger:  Up to 1975, Montana issued either yearly plates or multiyear plates that are renewed for only one or a few extra years before a general reissue provided new plates for everyone.  Because Montana county codes the plates, the pages can get enormous to download.  I have a very nice (and large) selection of counties, so beginning with the 1976 bicentennial design plate, I have split the pages into the following bases, each being a link to my website page of that type:

2010 retro white/blue design:  Beginning in January 2010, the state began a complete replate of all plates with this design that is actually only somewhat similar to the 1975 design.  The major differences are that the 1975 design was debossed and the 2010 design is completely flat, and the 1975 design had "BIG SKY COUNTRY" as the slogan at the top and the 2010 design has "TREASURE STATE".  The plate number has the county code (see "Montana county codes" page) at the left, followed by a bison skull separator (similar to the 2006 design), followed by the plate number.  For single digit counties, the format used was "0 00000A" and for two-digit county codes the format used was "00 0000A". 

One interesting note, though.  All previous Montana passenger plates did not use leading zeros and started at plate "1" following the county number.  This base seems to use leading zeros, but I'm not 100% sure as I've only seen one leading zero (for example, "4 08536A" from Missoula County #4).
