1973 blue/orange base:  During 1973, the state reversed the colors of the plate to a plain blue on orange design.

2001 "THE EMPIRE STATE" base:  This base began in 2001 and fully replaced the Statue of Liberty base.  The standard plate number format was "AAA 0000", but owners of the previous base could keep their number on the new design.  The design at the top is essentially a profile of the state with Niagara Falls in the west (on the left), the mountains in the center, and the New York City skyline in the east (on the right).

2010 "Empire gold" base:  This base, nicknamed the "Empire gold" design, began in 2010 and followed the plate numbers from the previous base at the "FAB 0000" block.  Like the Statue of Liberty and white "Empire State" designs before it, this base is undated and unstickered.  Registrants received a windshield registration decal instead.  Originally intended to replace the previous "Empire" design, it is currently only issued to new registrants.
