PASSENGER - 2010 "Beautiful Ohio" BASE Passenger: Up through 1974, Ohio had issued yearly plates. In 1975, the state issued a renewal sticker that was placed on the 1974 plates and then in 1976 the state began issuing multiyear designs that were either continued or fully replaced when a subsequent design was released. Like many states, Ohio county coded the plates through (and including) the 1976 base plate, but in a most unusual way. See the Ohio county codes page for a full explanation. I have many Ohio plates and the pages can get enormous to download. Therefore, beginning with the 1976 base, I have split the pages into the following bases, each being a link to my website page of that type:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2010 "Beautiful Ohio" base: This base began in 2010 after a number of decision changes in how they were going to be issued. After mulling over whether to make the issue a "pay extra" design or a general issue (replacement of all previous designs), the state settled on the issue as a no-fee alternative to run side-by-side with the sunburst design until the stocks of the sunburst design run out. The design uses the same "AAA 0000" plate number format, but begins where the sunburst design left off, presumably at the "FAA" block (unless I discover otherwise). The bottom left sticker has county number and name and the year sticker on the bottom right continues the plate number and the day of expiration in the month (i.e., "FEB 8" on the 2-09 expiration sticker) type sticker that began midway during the previous base.
