PASSENGER Passenger: Up to 1966, Tennessee issued passenger plates yearly or, as in the case of 1962, with yearly renewal stickers. Starting with the 1966 base, Tennessee issued longer term multiyear bases. From the 1976 state seal base forward, designs ran for five to seven years each before being replaced with a new design. Tennessee either county codes the plates or places a county sticker at the bottom of the plate, therefore, these pages can get enormous to download. I have a very nice (and large) selection of counties, so beginning with the 1976 state seal design plate, I have split the pages into the following bases, each being a link to my website page of that type:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2006 rolling hills base: This is an all flat design that began in 2006 (screened "07" expiration at top right). The plate number format flips from the previous design to a "000 AAA" format. At the bottom is the county of issue on a sticker and a place at the bottom corners for county and local tax stickers, if any. Sometime in 2009, in anticipation of the modification to come, the state moved the barcode from above the county sticker to the bottom right corner of the plate. In 2011, the state exhausted the "000 AAA" format and went to a "A00 00A" format. At the same time, the state added it's tourism website address "www.tnvacation.com" just above the county sticker, thus the reason for the movement of the barcode earlier.
