PASSENGER
"67" base: This debossed design was Vermont's first multiyear base, but was only used for 1967 and renewed with a sticker for 1968. Different plate number formats were used as the design progressed beginning with an all numeric format. When "99999" was reached, the plate went to different formats. When I research this more, I will list the other formats.
1969 "SEE" at bottom base: This design began in 1969 and was renewed yearly with stickers through 1971. Three different plate number formats were used as the design progressed: all numeric, "A-0000", then "0000-A". 1971 (white/green) vg $7.00 "M-527" (11525)
1972 "SEE" at top base: This design, similar to the 1969 design, began in 1972 and had a lightly debossed "72" in the stickerwell. The plate was renewed yearly with stickers through 1976. The four formats used on this base were: "A-0000", "0000-A", "AA-000" and "A000A". 1975 (white/green) vg $7.00 "4736-L" (11635)
1975 (white/green) vg $7.00 "4736-L" (11636)
1977 "GREEN MOUNTAINS" base: This design, the first with a full slogan, began in 1977. Month/year renewal stickers were used for the bottom right rectangle stickerwell, but the bottom left round stickerwell was never used. A total of four different plate number formats were used as the design progressed: "A-0000", then "0000-A", "AA000", and finally "000AA".
1985 "Green Mountain State" base: This new design was the first with a screened state name and slogan and was made with two different die types. Also unusual about this design is the large reflective white rectangle, from end to end of the plate, surrounding the plate number. The green inside the rectangle is embossed and the plate number is debossed. When the design first began, the plate had a large die type so that only five characters would fit on the plate. Again, the plate number configurations changed as the design progressed, beginning with "0A000", then "000A0", "0AA00", and finally "00AA0". In 1990, the state converted to a "AAA 000" format and used a smaller die type that could actually fit seven characters on the plate. In April 2003, the state modified the stickers to include the plate number.
1990 "Green Mountain State" "AAA 000" base: A continuation of the previous design, in 1990, the state converted to a "AAA 000" format and used a smaller die type that could actually fit seven characters on the plate. In April 2003, the state modified the stickers to include the plate number. 2005 (reflective white/green) natural exc $10.00 "DPY 639" (10970)
